What it is

VIP is a naturally occurring 28-amino-acid neuropeptide with wide roles in the gut, lungs, immune system and circadian signaling.

Proposed mechanism

It signals through VPAC receptors (GPCRs), producing vasodilation, smooth-muscle relaxation and immunomodulation.1 It is studied in inflammatory conditions.
