What it is

SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that concentrates on the inner mitochondrial membrane.

Proposed mechanism

It binds cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing the machinery of energy production and reducing harmful reactive-oxygen production.1
