Approved drug — used here for education. This is an approved/prescription medicine in at least one region; "research"/compounded versions sold as chemicals are a separate, riskier thing. Not medical advice.
What it is
Semax is a synthetic peptide analog of a fragment of ACTH (4-10), developed in Russia as a nootropic/neuroprotective agent.
Proposed mechanism
It is reported to modulate BDNF and other neurotrophic signaling and dopaminergic/serotonergic systems, without ACTH's hormonal effects.1 Most evidence is Russian and not widely replicated.
State of the evidence
Clinical use/approval in Russia; little independent Western trial data; RUO elsewhere.
Regulatory & status
Approved in Russia; RUO in the US/EU.
