PT-141

A melanocortin-receptor agonist · FDA-approved as Vyleesi (bremelanotide)

Melanocortin · sexual-health researchEvidence: Phase 3 (approved indication)FDA-approved (specific indication)
Approved — for a specific indication. Bremelanotide (Vyleesi) is FDA-approved for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women — prescription-only. "PT-141" sold as a research chemical is not the approved product. Educational only, not medical advice.

What it is

PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a melanocortin-receptor agonist derived from the melanotan lineage. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors (which act on blood flow), it works centrally in the brain.

Mechanism

It activates melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) — a GPCR involved in central pathways of sexual desire and arousal.2 Acting on desire circuitry rather than vasculature is what distinguishes the melanocortin approach.1
