What it is

Orforglipron is an oral, small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist — notable because it is not a peptide and does not require injection or the special formulation oral semaglutide needs.

Proposed mechanism

It activates the same GLP-1 receptor (a class B GPCR) as injectable GLP-1 drugs, but as a small molecule it can be taken as a simple pill.1
