What it is
Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide (glutamate-cysteine-glycine) — the cell's main antioxidant and a key detox cofactor.
Proposed mechanism
It neutralizes reactive oxygen species and participates in phase-II detoxification via glutathione-S-transferases.1 Oral bioavailability is poor; IV/injectable use is common in wellness settings but evidence for systemic benefit is limited.
State of the evidence
Central endogenous antioxidant; supplementation benefits in healthy people are mixed.
Regulatory & status
Oral forms sold as supplements; injectable use is off-label/RUO.
