What it is
Adipotide (FTPP) is an experimental peptide designed to target the blood supply of white fat tissue.
Proposed mechanism
It couples a peptide that homes to prohibitin on fat-tissue blood vessels with a pro-apoptotic sequence, aiming to prune the vasculature that feeds fat — reducing fat mass in animal models.1 Notably, kidney effects were seen in primate studies, a key safety caveat.
State of the evidence
Animal (including primate) data; not established in humans; safety signals (renal) noted.
