A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins, just far fewer of them linked together. Where a protein may be hundreds or thousands of amino acids long, a peptide is typically between two and fifty.
The sequence — the exact order of those amino acids — folds the chain into a precise three-dimensional shape. In research models, that shape is what lets a peptide fit a specific target, the way a key is cut for one lock. Two peptides can share many of the same amino acids and still behave completely differently, purely because their sequences differ.
This is why precision is the recurring theme of everything here. A peptide is only what its sequence says it is — which is exactly why documentation and purity matter so much.
Research peptides are usually supplied as a tiny amount of white, freeze-dried powder — the lyophilized form. Freeze-drying makes the material far more stable for storage. Often there is so little powder that the vial looks empty; that is completely normal.
